Is it just me, or are any other allergy suffers thinking that their heads might explode?

Actually, I know it’s not just me because after being especially miserable the last 24 hours, I just heard on the news that it’s really bad right now.  Of course, I probably didn’t need the news to tell me, but it was good to know it wasn’t all in my head.  But, I guess it really is all in my head.  You know, because it’s in my head.

Eric and I used different methods to combat it though.  I used the Neti Pot, Eric used the torture spray Sinus Buster.  (I actually might use Sinus Buster later tonight, even if it does make me jump up and down, pound my fist on the counter, and cry.)

Know what else makes my head want to explode?  Our calendar for October!

How in the world can one month be so busy?  I’m starting to see the wisdom behind some families only allowing children to do one activity at a time.  Somehow, it just doesn’t feel like that would work as well for us though, especially because many of the extras are to supplement our schooling.

I’ll probably have to collapse in November.

Last weekend, Eric and I got to get out of town (special thanks to my parents) and we went to a craft/art show where I had a booth.  Super fun!  I always really love the chance to set up at a craft show.  It’s such a different experience than selling online.  I love being able to talk to people about my art, hear their stories, and enjoy the things that others have in their booths (and talking to them about it).

I also had to buy some fun things, including a bunch of headbands from a shop called Specifically Random (seriously – they are comfortable, fit my big head, and are well made), a lovely smelling sugar scrub from Two Classy Lassies, and this magnet from a seller that it appears used to be on Etsy but isn’t any longer:

I did a lot of sales, which was fabulous.  On a whim, I decided to take the small painting that this print was made from:

We Love Him 8x8 Print

It’s actually the first mixed media painting that I made, and so I had been holding on to it.  But, with about the same ceremony that I did when I took my wedding dress to Goodwill after years of holding on to it, I guess I just decided that it was time to take it to a show.  And, wouldn’t you know it, it sold.  (The lovely woman who purchased it bought it as a gift for a friend who has had some challenges and life changes recently.  She thought it was perfect for her. Love that!)

I also took along one of my favorite paintings (this is the print):

Visiting Paris 8x10 Print

Yep, it sold too.  I almost wanted to say that I changed my mind.  That’s good business sense, right?

On the upside, the woman that bought it loved it and actually planned to put it up at her clothing consignment store.  (Not as a sale item, of course.  Just as decoration in the juniors department.)  She told me to come visit it anytime I wanted.  While writing this, I went to find her site (and her Facebook page) and apparently I didn’t have to wait too long to see it again.  (Well, kind of, anyway.)

Twenty minutes after she bought it, someone bought one of the two prints of it I had with me.  The last print I had on hand managed to come home with me, but only after it almost went home with a few different people.

(the listing to each of those prints can be reached by clicking on the images)

This week marked our first school vacation with our new calendar.  We have moved to six weeks on, one week off.  Or, thereabouts.  We had already done two weeks during the summer, and then finished six weeks in the more typical school year.

FitBit UltraIf this week is any indication, I’m thinking that I’m really going to love having a week off every six weeks.  The kids are pretty darn psyched about it too.  Although, I think Monday is going to be a little bit of a let down.  It’s been a nice week to keep busy on other projects.

Know what I’m having fun with recently?  My FitBit Ultra!

I had one before (last year), but it was glitchy, so I returned it.  But, so far so good this time around.  But, even more exciting was when I figured out the other day that I could sync it up with my favorite calorie tracking app – MyFitnessPal.  (Love that app!  So much great information.)

We still don’t have any definitive answer on the tests that I mentioned last week, but thanks for the prayers.  Well, that’s not true.  It’s Eric that I was asking for prayers for, and all of the follow up blood work has been good thus far.  So, those are answers, they just don’t answer the question we have.  At this year’s check up, his liver numbers were off, so they wanted him to repeat the tests.  Then, those were even more off, so he had more specific tests, which came out fine.

On Friday morning, he’ll be having an ultrasound to see if they can figure out what’s up with the abnormal results.  I’m hoping that by next week, we’ll have a better idea of what’s going on.

Thanks again for the prayers for my cryptic request last week.

  1. Horn had unusually high level numbers (as in we thought he had hepatitis). It went on for years (like 4) before it was determined he was a diabetic. His body was working so hard to regulate his sugar that his cholesterol levels skyrockets (as in check into the hospital to have blood filtered) was wreaking havoc on everything else. We control the diabetes and his liver went back to normal. Good luck!

    • Diabetes was definitely something that we were/are concerned about, especially since he has a family history. On general tests, all of his glucose and A1C numbers looked fine, but we’ll keep it in mind if we don’t find out anything with the ultrasound.

He had tests for hepatitis last week. Those all came back fine, but though it was disconcerting just having to have him tested for it.

I had an epiphany last week and all of the sudden realized that I think it might be pointing to his gallbladder. We’ll see after the ultrasound results come back. Hopefully I’m wrong, but at least it’s a fixable problem if I’m right. (Though it would be really weird for us to both have our gallbladders out in the same year.)

  2. Prayers coming your way for the test results. I loved reading about your craft fair experience. I love, love, love craft shows! I totally agree that it really adds to the joy of selling when you get to meet and interact with your buyers face to face. And, I feel your pain on the exploding head allergy symptoms! This week, between the allergens in the outside world and all the dust we’ve stirred with our move, I’ve had a constant sinus headache!

  3. It sounds like you had a very successful show! Congrats! I am right with you on the schedule this fall–we let Alex join cub scouts and do a kids’ theater workshop (6 Saturdays) that directly coincides with Julianna’s new adaptive swim lessons. That, plus having kids in three separate schools, is causing mayhem with our evenings. My husband has actually consented to stop taking new students and let his piano studio die as students quit taking. That’s a BIGDEAL.

  4. How weird! My husband had slightly raised liver levels too. Doc can’t figure anything out and his numbers were lower in the last test but still not normal. Prayers for all our husbands! I have a relative who is a doctor and she wasn’t concerned at all about his numbers, so that gave us some relief.

  5. I’ll keep Eric in my thoughts and prayers. It’s always hard waiting for test results.

Congrats on your sales! That is awesome. How cool that the lady put it up in her shop.
