7 Quick Takes: October 5, 2012 (Vol. 134)

~ 1 ~

This week has been totally crazy!  Do you ever have those weeks?  Those weeks when you have to be places every single day, projects due, trips to get ready for?

Yep, that’s the week that I’ve had.  Oh, and throw in a kid’s birthday too.  Crazy, crazy week.

This girl turned eight years old this week!

~ 3 ~

I still remember at one particular time on that day eight years ago as my labor was at its highest point in pain.  It was at the noontime, and I was giving birth at a hospital that was run by Franciscans.  (Side note: This was before we were Catholics.)  A Franciscan Sister got on the PA system with the noon prayer, but then went on to talk about their founder St. Francis on his feast day.  I found myself crying in both pain and comfort.  It was a pretty emotional moment.

My favorite part was a few hours later though, because that was when we got to see our doctor freak out as she checked my progress on her way to a C-section.  “Give me some gloves!” she shouted to the nurse.  When the nurse questioned what size, she shot back, “I don’t care, just give me some gloves.”  (And then I pushed for about 10 seconds before we met our daughter for the first time.)

We should have known to expect excitement from a girl that came into the world with such a burst of excitement.

This wasn’t exactly how I thought our project would come out this week, but we talked more about moon phases last week and then tackled making out own moon phases example with Oreos (as I have seen over and over on Pinterest):

Moon Phases with Oreo Cookies

After we finished, we ate these moon phases.  They were delicious.

We all agreed, however, that we didn’t care what it looked like, we would have preferred to have eaten Golden Oreos instead.

I went shopping this week and picked up a little something in my cart that I didn’t know they carry at Target…

shopping with my girl

(That girl is all kinds of crazy. She makes life more interesting at our house.  And, well, apparently in Target too.)

I’m sure I’ll share more about Savvy Blogging Summit next week.  However, there is something that I have to share about our hotel.

The bathroom in our room has a door that is just frosted glass.  Frosted glass!  Seriously.  As if that weren’t bad enough, the door doesn’t seal shut because it’s a totally glass door.

Oh, wait.  There is an even worse.

There is then a long pane of frosted glass in the room that “looks” into the bathroom.  What in the world is that about?

Have you ever had a crazy feature somewhere that you’ve stayed?

  1. Well …. there was the whole thing about the pillows at 2:1 Conference — I never noticed. I was too excited to have an entire bed all to myself.

    Happy Birthday to your Molly!

    • I totally didn’t notice the pillow thing either, until somebody said something. Honestly – it didn’t phase me. I was pretty excited to sleep alone too.

  2. We stayed in some doozy hotels while traveling in Europe. One (I think in Rome) had a little tiny space with a door where the toilet was, but the main bathroom didn’t have a door at all. So, if you we’re, say, taking a shower, there was no door to close. The hotel we stayed at in London had the tiniest bathroom ever. You could barely fit two people in there. (So, giving the kids a bath, for instance, or helping them brush their teeth, was a challenge.) That was one of the things we marveled at when we moved back to the states and spent time in/out of hotels while waiting to move into our new house: the hotel rooms here are like palaces compared to most of Europe. (At least the ones we saw!)

    • This hotel was supposed to be very European inspired. It even had “Lifts” as the sign for elevators and “WC” as the sign for the bathrooms.

I bet you’ve seen some pretty interesting things in European hotels. Our hotel room in London (my only time staying in Europe) was very small.

  3. Ah, yes, the bathrooms. What were they thinking??

  4. What the heck? That sounds like a very strange hotel room!

I had to laugh about your daughter being crazy, as my Abby is pretty crazy herself. I’m sure they’d get along. Abby is 8 too. Happy Birthday to Molly!

I love Oreos. Golden Oreos are pretty good, but my favorite Oreos are the holiday ones. They always taste better than the regular Oreos. We’ve noticed they have more filling, but aren’t double stuffed. They are just perfectly stuffed and the colored filling makes it even more fun. LOL!

  5. You are brave! Strange hotel experience! Love the Oreo Moon Phases!

  6. Thinking back to when I was a kid, and all of the military transfers we made cross country and the motels we stayed in. My sister and I always wanted to get the rooms with the beds with Magic Fingers– those coin operated vibrating beds! CRAZY to think about those now and how, uh, sleezy they were? We thought they were AWESOME (when we were 5-10 years old). LOL

    • Oh my goodness! I burst out laughing when I read your comment. I remember those beds too. I think that we stayed in a hotel with that once. (When we got stranded in a snow storm.) I remember thinking about how I really wanted to use it, but didn’t want to ask because I thought my Mom would say no.
