7 Quick Takes: November 30, 2012 (Vol. 141)

While the family and I were out this week, I had to run into Walgreens by myself to grab some feminine supplies.  Now, I know that I’m a mature lady in my thirties, but I cringed when I saw a hip looking guy at the cash register when I walked in.

Even though everyone in my family was waiting out in the van, I still meandered my way through the store to my intended destination.  I wondered, “What else do I need to buy?  I can’t walk up there with just those.”  Still, everything I passed was really nothing that I needed.  So, I trudged my way up there with a big pack of feminine supplies only to find him chit chatting with his angsty college age coworker.

Fabulous.

As I got back to the van, I told Eric that I wanted to buy something, but all I could think of were things like toilet paper or candy, and both of those just seemed like they would make it all the more awkward.  So, I picked my particular brand of awkward, paid, and strolled out of there.

(The fun continued at home when Molly requested to know all about the hows and whys of the particular product.  Super duper.)

My awkward feelings on that one make me think of one time when I was a young teen and my Mom was out of town when I needed those products as well.  With all sisters no longer living at home and just Dad around, it meant a trip to the drug st0re for us.  Upon getting close to the check out, my traditional (but loving) Dad practically tossed money at me and stood as far back as possible.

I can’t believe that I led with feminine supply talk when really the biggest news of the week was that we went to a Reconciliation service at church and we all went to Confession.

That’s right – we all went.  Even this little gal…

If you’re not clear on that, that is her busting a move in the church pew afterward.  Don’t worry – it was a small move, but may have been accompanied with a quiet “WooHoo.”  She also later said, “I like going to Reconciliation.  I don’t know why I was so worried.”

As long as we’re on Catholicism, here is a fun printable that I posted this week over at Catholic Mothers Online.

December Activities for Catholic Families

I know that it must be kind of fun because Jack and Molly looked through it and kept saying, “Yeah!  We should do that!”

A couple of great sales this week…

My eBooks are still on sale at 50% off through the end of this week.  Go check out all the details on that.  Plus, everything I have in stock (on hand at home) in my Etsy shop is 50% off through December 5th.

I have my last craft show of the season on Saturday though, so the shop will temporarily be on vacation mode during that, and everything that sells during the show will be taken out of the sale section.  So, if you have your eye on something, grab it by Friday night, just to be sure.

One other noteworthy deal going on right now for bloggers: all of ProBlogger’s eBooks (some of which are almost $50 normally!) are on sale for $10 each right now.  I just went and grabbed several of them, and can’t wait to dig in this winter.

I haven’t shared any new art pieces in a while, and several of these are on sale right now (you can click through on pictures to see the actual listings):

This week, we cleared out the remaining Halloween candy (there was a ton left) and sent it all in to Eric’s work.  During the clean out, I found these “candy sticks.”

HeyCandy Sticks – I don’t care what you’re calling yourselves these days – you and I both know what you are.

  1. Ok, I have to share my embarrassing drug store story. I ran in to buy the tester strips for my fertility moniter. They’re pretty pricey, so I really wanted to use the HSA card to pay. But the darn thing wouldn’t go through. A couple different clerks tried before they called the manager – who turned out to be the dad of a family in out homeschool group!! Yikes!!!

  2. I just have to let you know that you had me laughing out loud during several parts of that post, especially the thought on the candy cigarettes, I mean, sticks.

  3. LOL about the candy “sticks”! I still can’t believe they actually used to call them candy cigarettes.

Oh and Abby is always asking me about feminine products when I buy them. Whenever I have coupons and there is a sale, I’ll stock up. Last time we were in the store she yelled out, “You are buying tampons AGAIN!” LOL!
