7 Quick Takes: November 19, 2010 (Vol. 61)

Molly loves to create drawings and projects to give to people. If someone is coming over for a visit, it would not be a surprise if there is some little thing that Molly has made that they’re supposed to take home with them. While it sounds sweet, we get a lot of things here at our house that she has made and sometimes I can feel a little like, “Seriously? Another drawing? Where am I going to put another drawing?”

I couldn’t help but look at the whole thing in a different way the other day while I was sitting alone with Molly.  She was again creating a drawing for someone when she turned to me and said, “I love giving things to people.  That’s what God made me for.”

We have had a crazy busy week, and I just don’t see a calm down in sight.  I know that I’ve been too busy because several times this week, I have fallen asleep at random times.  One of those times was on Wednesday, during silent reading time for the kids.  I sat on the couch, and then suddenly, one of the kids talked to me and I realized I had been asleep for about 10 minutes.

Eric and I have been joking lately that I can buy organization at the store.  You know, not tools to get organized.  Rather, the actual skill of being organized.  I could really use some of that.

Helpful Homeschool Hints~ 4 ~

I have really enjoyed reading through the posts submitted for the new meme here at Many Little Blessings.  If you’re  homeschooler, you might want to check out Helpful Homeschool Hints.  It will be here every Thursday.  (Well, except that I’m already canceling it for next week on account of Thanksgiving.)

This  week in my post, I talked about what happened when I delegated some science experiments.

A couple of recommendations from our week:

The boys put their money together and purchased Active Life: Explorer (with mat).  It arrived on Wednesday, and all of the kids have been loving it.  It has been a delight to watch Noah, who seems naturally inclined to not do high energy activities, as he runs, jumps, and gets very active with it.  Love it!

The other recommendation, which I have mentioned here before, is one of our current favorite books, Falling for Rapunzel. The reason I can’t help but mention it this week is that we have read it so many times that it has just started falling apart.  If you’ve never read this book, it’s super cute!

Do you remember mittens?  You know, the things you can wear on your hands when it’s cold outside.  Yes, of course you remember mittens.  In fact, you’re thinking right now, “Why is Angie acting like mittens are obsolete?”

I have been having the worst time trying to find mittens for Molly.  She has decided that she doesn’t want gloves this year, she really wants some mittens.  Apparently mittens are not so easy to find anymore, except for very small children.  What’s up with that?

I’m going to go try to hunt some down on Etsy.  Oh, and of course, since kids are kids, she has specifically requested magenta colored gloves.  (Although when she says magenta, I think she actually is thinking hot pink.)

The stores are all getting Christmas foods and decorations out already.  I wish they didn’t do it so early.  The only up side of that, we have already gone through two bags of Hershey’s Candy Cane Kisses.  They taste like a dream.  Love them!  I need to put buying more on my to do list!

(Shhhh…we’ve also eaten a bag of the Cherry Cordial ones too.)

  3. Oh, if you find that store that sells organization – and if it’s on sale – please let me know! I really could use a 2-for-1 on that!

And, thank you for commenting at THH. It’s been difficult for me to let go of formal teaching procedures at times, too. But, I am finding what worked so well in the classroom I taught in needs to be adapted for better learning at home. (I am also realizing what may work better should I ever go back to the classroom!)

  4. We also like Falling For Rapunzel, it’s hilarious!

  5. Oh, what a sweet comment from Molly! And, reading time is like a sedative to me — I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to take a 15-20 minute snooze after the kids have finished reading to me, especially if it’s after lunch.
