7 Quick Takes: February 22, 2013 (Vol. 148)

Last week, Eric and I decided that we should find out what all this Downton Abbey hoopla was about.  Figuring that we would watch one episode and perhaps get back to it later, we started watching at 11 pm on a Friday night.

We were up watching episodes until 3 am.

The following night, we again watched four hours of Downton Abbey, and then snuck in a few more hours this week.  We’re almost done with season two after just starting it less than a week ago.

Thank you to the wonderful partnership of our Wii U and Amazon Prime instant streaming for allowing us to be able to watch so much Downton Abbey!

And seriously – how is that show so crazy addictive?

On Wednesday evening of this week, The Homeschool Classroom‘s Facebook page hit over 10,000 followers.  It’s been exciting to watch as it crept closer and closer to 10,000.  Thanks to all of you who are also Homeschool Classroom readers!

Here’s my screenshot that I had to take as soon as I noticed.  (I saw it at 9,999 but missed the actual 10,000.)

Am I the only one who gets really annoyed by VagueBookers.  You know them.  Maybe you are them.  I don’t know.  But, it’s those people who have to post statuses on Facebook like, “I can’t believe the news my family got.  It will change our lives forever” or “The best thing ever happened today” or “How am I going to make it through this?”

You know, and then they don’t post anything else, and when, inevitably, somebody asks, they finally say what’s up hours and hours later.  Or, much worse, “I can’t say anything about it right now.”  Okay, then don’t fish for attention, just don’t say anything right now.

I know, it’s not really that big of a deal.  But, is it just me that finds that tiring and usually won’t even respond?

(Now, I will add that I can sometimes understand when somebody is promoting something and might say, “Be sure and check tomorrow for our site’s big announcement” or something like that.  I get that.  It’s marketing.)

Molly walked out of her room a couple of days ago, peeked her head around the corner, and said, “Can I do a fashion show for you guys?”  She then added, “Oh!  It’s a bad fashion show.”

We figured this probably meant she’d be parading out in some wild outfit.  Instead, she started up with her best announcer voice, “Doesn’t everyone miss the ’70′s?”  She then brought out this Barbie…

We had Jack’s latest cardiology appointment this week.  Yes, you can guess from the fact that this is item #5 that it means that it was all good.  Well, you know, it was all good for a kid with an aortic root the size of an adult’s.  (And who had to increase his medication.)

On the up side, we finally thought to ask the doctor if Jack was allowed to ride amusement park rides that say not to ride them if you have heart problems.  He only hesitated a moment before saying yes.  This was a relief, of course, because we’ve already been doing it.  Also on the up side, Jack charmed the women doing the echocardiogram and I met a very nice woman who checked us in.

One of my friends seems to think that I should try being vegan, I think.

On a completely unrelated note, have I mentioned that I think that one of my friends might have gone insane?  It’s a very, very sad story.

(Yes, I amuse myself sometimes.)

Speaking of friends, I’ll take this last one to send out special thoughts and prayers to one of my BFFs, Amanda, who will be having knee surgery by the time many of you will read this.  Not only is Amanda a wonderful friend, but we love her whole family and are even godparents to her seventh child (who happens to be quite sick right now).

Here’s hoping that Amanda is healed quickly, and that our little goddaughter is well soon.
