Home Baked Holiday Gifts 2010

in cooking/baking, gifts, holidays/birthdays

As in years past, we had a baking day today to put together Christmas goodies for some of the people in our lives. This year, our list consisted of 16 people, plus one group of people.

After many, many hours of working (this was what we did for school today, having our third Project Day), this is what our dining room table looked like:

The container for the group of people (the other people that work in the office with Eric) was a 13×9 pan, with all others being 8×8 pans (that came with lids).  Our 8×8 pans were for: the six people that work in the department that Eric manages, Eric’s boss, six religious education teachers/helpers (each of our kids has two adults in their classroom), our piano teacher, Noah’s speech therapist (we didn’t do them for our other therapists since we’re not seeing them for a whole month), and our neighbors across the street (who often help us with things, including snow blowing our driveway and sidewalk every time it snows).

Included in each of the 8×8 tins:

- Two pieces of Pine Bark

- Two pieces of Peppermint Bark

- A baggie with 1 1/2 cups of Holiday Snack Mix

-A few chocolate dipped pretzel rods with sprinkles or sugars on them

-Two Fruit Loop Rice Krispie Treats

-One scone (either cinnamon chip or butterscotch chip)

- 12 – 14 Cake Balls (in three varieties – cherry with milk chocolate coating, orange with milk chocolate coating, and lemon with white chocolate coating)

Although I did most of the work, this is the first year that the kids did some helping, which was really nice.  Plus, in the evening, Eric did all of the packing of the tins.  It was such a blessing to have help!  Plus, Eric took the kids to the library and to pick up dinner from out (to bring home for all of us), which was also very nice.

The kids are very excited to get to deliver many of the goodies, and it’s with an extra sense of pride this year.

Do you do any holiday baking?  What will you be making?

Well, I told my friend Stephanie yesterday that “YES! I would love to be a part of your cookie exchange!” …. “9 Dozen cookie by Thursday at 5pm… of course I can do that!”
Uh… it is Wednesday, and I havent baked a thing! So, today, I will be baking at LEAST 9 dozen cookies. Just the basic sugar cookie variety, possibly with half dipped in melted chocolate instead of frosted and prettied. Wish me luck!
YOUR treats made me wish that you had done that project before Thanksgiving. I LOVE your goodie boxes for the holiday and will seriously miss not having some in my home for the Christmas Season.
Love and hugs to you and the kiddos! Good job everyone!

Nice! As you know from my Sconefest, I’ve been baking. I’ll do one more round on Christmas eve to take scones to our gathering and for Christmas morning. I think that is probably it, however.

Cake balls!!! Love those things. My husband requested them for work gifts, so I’ll be making a bunch tomorrow. Fine with me, because I can use the gluten-free cake mix and not have to stress about conversions. Next week I’ll play around with new recipes and flour/dairy/egg conversions and see what we end up with to bring to family gatherings. Then, I’m thinking about making some cherry almond bread for our breakfasts and for our neighbor. Hoping that one works out well!

Wow! I’m impressed – and what a great homeschool project for December! Homemade fudge was always our favorite Christmas goodie to make and give. We also like to make pressed cookies and German chocolate logs. I found you through Hip Homeschool Hop.

those all look really nice I am sure that the people who get them will be very happy. My mother used to do this all the time for teachers and when my children were little I did this as well
