I’ve been toying with starting a new blog quite a bit. But, you already know that — I mentioned it before (a few times, huh?).
Oh, and mind you – when I say that I’ve been toying with it, that apparently means I bought both the .com and the .net of the domain name. I have it hosted (where I already have my other sites hosted, so it’s not like I’ve spent extra on that). I installed WordPress on it. And, now I have a header (which would change seasonally) for it. You know, because I’ve been “toying around” with the idea.
Though I have composed some posts in my head for it, I haven’t actually put them on there yet. I think that I’m concerned, because there is a fine line between if things would be posted here or there. It’s a fine enough line that it has made me stop in the last day and think, “Maybe I really just need to put anything I would have posted at the other blog on Many Little Blessings after all. Maybe that’s what I’m actually feeling called to do.”
Here’s the thing – I have felt pulled to make changes in my life. (Especially, I think, given the loss of both of my Grandmothers in the past year, as well as the shockingly sudden open heart surgery of one of my very best friends – my wonderful, amazing mother.) To do things that will help me to recognize more of the joy. Sometimes I look at this blog as a recording of our lives, as they are now. I was having trouble thinking about recording the thoughts, emotions, and journey of some life changes here where I typically tend to post more of the “now” things. I also notice that it’s not unusual for me not to post often about how I really feel about things and life. I do sometimes, but often times it’s more matter-of-fact.
But, maybe you won’t mind. Maybe you want to make the same kind of journey too. Maybe you also feel that you get caught up in so many schedules and “have to”s that you’ve lost some of that joy too. And, maybe, just maybe, you don’t want me to stick that off on some other blog. Maybe you just want me to pop it in here between posts about things like household tips that have worked for me (and some that haven’t), posts about being a blogger, and posts about being Mom. Then again, you might want me to shut up about that stuff and stick to the freezer jam.
So, I want to ask you guys. Do you mind a couple more posts a week (yeah, I’m not going to get crazy with posting) about some of the changes I might try to make and some of the ways I’m trying to find a little more joy and contentment? Should I just start the other blog and not post as much on either site?
(Mind you, this does mean that probably once week, I might mention that I’m trying to lose weight. I won’t really dwell on it at all, but I do feel that at this point, I have to have some public accountability because in private only, I don’t have to face people to tell them if I gained five pounds. This will not become a weight loss blog, but it’s something I am going to need to mention from time to time. Sometimes, it might even just be an item in the 7 Quick Takes.)
I can’t guarantee that I’ll do what you guys suggest, but I just want to hear what you have to say. It’s like I told my photography co-op students, “We’re all artists here. Even if you think you’re not, you are the second you walk in that door. And, if you do something in your art that someone else doesn’t think is right, but you love it, then you can just consider that an artistic choice.”
Thanks so much for any feedback you give. I appreciate you all more than you know.

Angie –
When I first started blogging (about ten minutes ago), I read all sorts of advice about content and picking a niche and not veering off topic and so on and so forth. I felt all boxed in, like I should pick one and ONLY write about knitting or homeschooling or cooking. It just didn’t feel right.
After all, my life has many facets, and I wanted the freedom to talk about many things. So I do. And some people will like it and some people won’t. But I resolved to be true to myself and not try to be anything I’m not. So if that means talking about how much I love teevee or how much I hate potty training or why I feel passionate about homeschooling or the occasional four-letter word sneaks out, then so be it. I am the same person online as I am in real life.
Oh, wait – are we supposed to be talking about you?
Well then, my vote is you let it all hang out at Many Little Blessings and don’t try so hard to compartmentalize yourself. We ALL have more than one aspect to ourselves, and the blogs I love the most are the ones where I see the whole person.
Just my two cents!

I would say post it all right here. I wouldn’t mind sharing in that journey.

In short, do what you want. I for one have always wanted to know more about the person on a blog so that they are not “unrelateable.” (is that even a word? Spell check says no, so like Stephen Colbert, I just made it up!) Even though I know more about you than the average bear, hearing about your trials and tribulations keeps me in touch in the best way with what’s up in your life. And of course, life is what happens when you are busy making plans (stole this from someone called John Lennon. Nice man.) Maybe even give your husband a guest spot on the blog as well so I can hear about him as well. But you’ve done a great job so far–this seems so much like a natural progression…
@Derek,
Thanks for coming over to comment, Derek. I’m glad that I’m on FB now so that we can keep up with each other. It’s been too long. (One of these days, it really is my intention to drive out your way for a family vacation. Lori even says she’ll make arrangements for the animals, though the kids have started doing better.)
I’ll tell Eric you think he should guest post sometime. Heaven only knows what he’d write about. You know, that just got me thinking – I should have him write about going back to college. I know that’s something that scares a lot of people. (He’s actually enrolled full time this semester, because he switched from his college’s distance program to their new online program. He is actually working less and enjoying it more than when he was part time.)
I know that the advice is to keep niche blogs tightly focused, but in practical terms, it’s hard to keep up the momentum of 2 blogs at once. Hard!
If you don’t plan to spin off the new blog into a business venture, I might keep all content in one place, but with the new subject’s posts accessible in one distinct category, with a button on the sidebar. You could also keep the new domain, forwarding the visitor directly to the category page of the new posts.
@Meredith,
Meredith – It always makes me so happy to see you online. Seriously, I just light up every time I see you post on FB, and having you here is a special treat. I miss your blog.
@Meredith,
Duh – and then I forgot to say that I had wondered about doing just exactly what you described as far as the button and redirection of the purchased URLs. Thanks for the suggestion as well.
I agree with everyone above.. we’re here for the whole haul
There are some blogs you just open up to read whenever they are new and I think most often it isn’t because it’s great tips or someone’s deep thoughts. My faves are usually a combo of the two, and what it comes down to is Y-O-U. When you feel a personal connection with the blogger, you want to read everything from them. I do, anyway.
So, a separate domain sounds insane to me with everything else you have going on, but my advice is always the same: Pray and ask God to show you what He wants for you!
I’ll read whatever you do

First – do what makes you happy! It would stress me to no end to try to keep up two blogs! I’m not so good at one.
Second – I think that if you choose, this is the perfect place for the “other” stuff if you want it to be. I always saw your blog as a slice of your life.
I say do it here. Everyone else has given great reasons, so I’ll just say . . . here’s good.

I love Many Little Blessings, and while I would most likely also love any blog you are a part of, I really love Many Little Blessings!
I think you need to just be yourself right here. I am up for reading about every aspect of your life, and would also love to see Eric do a guest spot from time to time!
Oh, and did I mention? I LOVE Many Little Blessings! (and you too of course!)
Kristin Cherwinski´s last [type] ..A Golden Display Up-cycling broken toys!
I say go for it here.
I’ve been thinking along the same lines lately. I hate to put anybody off who came to read specifically about kindergarten homeschooling unit studies, (or some similarly narrow issue,) with my navel gazing, but it is difficult and abitrary to keep everything separate.
My vote is to put it all here! As a reader, if there is something I’m not interested in, I can always skip it, but I tend to read blogs because of the writer rather than the specific content, so I would probably read it all.
what deb said !!!
love your blog, and would love to read about all the “other stuff” too.
Hi Angie,
I don’t think I would mind one bit if you shared a little more here on this blog. You have a gift for writing and the things of life that you experience can make a difference in someone else’s life (YOU have made a difference in MINE!). On the other hand, you also have a “knack” for creating great sites so I wouldn’t be lying if I said I’d be excited to see another one. Truly, I will read your blogs….whether you have 5 or whether you have 1!!
Post it here, Angie. I guess because I’ve been reading your blog for a long time, I feel like I know you a bit (and we’ve really, truly actually met in person!) You’re not one-dimensional like a Flat Angie project. I like to read different kinds of posts. Every once in a while I put a “deep-thoughts” post on my blog in between the hands-on projects ones. Post it here.

Samantha´s last [type] ..How do you do it all
As someone who has a very specific niche blog, I have to say that having a place where you can put it all sounds soooo appealing! And I feel like the name of your blog encompasses everything. Also, it’s not like this is a super tight niche blog anyway because it’s not like all you do is tell us what you can or can’t cook in a waffle iron. (And yes, “Will it Waffle?” is a real blog). Anyway, my vote is go for it! Personally, I keep my blog super niched, and share less relevant things on my facebook page. At least it gives me some outlet. If I wanted to post my weight over there, I would totally do it. I do whatever I want with my facebook page. I look forward to reading more of your personal stuff regardless of where it is

I would copy and paste Nancy’s reply but I am not sure that would be right:).
So definitely 100% what she said:D.
For me, I would rather it all be in one place. I don’t read blogs for one specific reason usually. I like the ones that write about all kinds of things, they seem more authentic. I also have limited time and I don’t like using a reader, so I manually click on blogs to read them. One more blog is likely to get overlooked. I enjoy reading what you have to write, on all topics, even homeschooling and I send my kids to public school!

I enjoy getting to know the bloggers whose blogs I read. I think you should just keep it all here, where all the blessings began.
Sandy´s last [type] ..Slip-sliding away
Post it here. I think adding another blog to all you already do may be too much. I would read anything you write regardless.
Mandy´s last [type] ..Adding to the Noise
I’d do it here, Angie. While my blog has niche to it, it is still very much me and my readers relate and read because there is a me behind the large family homeschool lady giving advice. Personally, I would LOVE to see more of you here and would find it hard to go elsewhere in addition to here. Many Little Blessings is you.
Amy @ Raising Arrows´s last [type] ..If You Are Reading This- I’m Still Here
I agree with everyone else, keep it all here! As much as I enjoy your currents topics, I also really enjoy your writing style… I’d read about you watching paint dry! lol!

Ultimately you will have to do what feels right for you. My vote is that you post here. It is inspiring and encouraging when bloggers share a part of themselves with us.
I would post it all here! This is your blog and you get to post whatever you want
I think everyone would welcome those kinds of posts to see what changes you are making!

I’ll agree with most everyone here – lay it all out in the same place. I think the idea of having separate buttons or pages on this blog would help keep them in topic, if that’s what you’re worried about, but it seems the general consensus is not to worry about that
Bottom line is, do whatever pleases you! Your readers will follow.
Kelly´s last [type] ..This is the day that the Lord has made
I think it’s all related. What you’re talking about adding here will fit in just fine, so I don’t see the need to separate into two sites.
But . . .
If you’ve played around with the site design and tech stuff already, maybe there’s something else there. Maybe you’re also itching for more of that?
Michelle´s last [type] ..A Word on Waldorf
@Michelle,
I still have a lot of work that I would have to do on the site design. The header was the easy part. I think that’s why I stopped before I really got into it. I didn’t want to do all the work on it and then get burned out trying to manage four blogs, when two of them were so closely related.
I think I’m one of your ‘lurkers’, but I think you should blog everything here ~ your title says it all, “Life between laundry loads”. I recently just added another page at the top of my blog for another topic and feel quite justified to do so!
Nadene´s last [type] ..Advantages of Sketching Weekly
Do it here! I think it’s ok to include “life stuff.” I always enjoy reading those things, too.
Even on deal blogs, like Money Saving Mom.

I’m behind this week, but catching up….I wanted to weigh-in even if you’ve made your decision already – do it here! I would check (another) blog, if you decided to do one, but do it here, then it’s less for me to check…oops, that sounds selfish!
But seriously….”real life” is what makes a blog, a GOOD blog, in my opinion!
