I am so thrilled to share that this weekend, I completed my first project for Home Ec 101! I am also thrilled that my sewing didn’t cause the world to stop spinning. I figured this would be one of those things that I signed up for and then never did anything with.
Sure, it may take me the whole year that the projects are online to do the whole course, rather than one project a day, like the course is set up. But, I have more confidence that I will keep working through it now.
While I do love the look of the double sided napkin with ric rac, I just can’t see making any more of them, as it doesn’t seem like an economical choice for cloth napkins (especially since I used almost an entire package of ric rac on the one napkin). Perhaps I’ll make more without the ric rac, or just sew up a bunch of single sided ones. Either way — I do enjoy the look of the very colorful cloth napkins.

So cute! Great job!
Those are cute!
Angie,
I think you did a great job! I’m impressed. I can barely sew on a button. My son asked me to sew up a hole in a stuffed animal for him. I avoided the whole subject for several months. Finally, he stood in front of me with those puppy eyes. So, I gave it a try. Guess what? I broke the durn needle! I ACTUALLY broke the needle! Do you believe that?
Well anyway, I’m proud of you for finishing your first project! I will just live vicariously through you!
Ah, very nice! I’ve never done the rick/rack idea, although seen it in lots of variations. I’m a more fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants girl (ie: I HATE pinning!).
However, just thought I’d throw another idea out there: anchor text. Straight lines make them easy too!
Hope you have lots of fun learning to sew – my current project is a wool cape to wear with a Renaissance costume (oy!)
@Jessica, oops – the link didn’t work – sorry! (still learning!)
