Make Ahead Gift: Handmade Christmas Scrapbook

in arts and crafts, gifts, holidays/birthdays

Yes, I am aware that I’m posting a Christmas scrapbook project and it’s the end of June.  While this may seem a little funny, this is about the time that I started this project last year.  I made eight of these albums (five square ones, two circles, and one rectangle, because I was just trying to use what I had around the house or that I could buy from my Mom’s stash).

This is the perfect time of year to start on a project like this! I worked one day each month on the albums, so that by November, all of my albums were finished.  Some of the pages went together in no time, whereas some took forever, such as the page with a hand embossed Christmas tree made up of individual stars that I then used Stickles (a scrapbooking version of glitter glue) on.

This album is based on an album that I made in a class during a crop at Lifetime Moments, which is an online scrapbook store that is no longer open.  All of the albums were made with 7 Gypsies chipboard albums and using Bazzill cardstock and Basic Grey Wassail patterned paper (as well as the flip side of the patterned papers, which are a distress “solid” color).

Although this did mean that we gave out a lot of very similar albums as gifts last Christmas, each had its own unique touches.  Everyone seemed to really enjoy the albums, and it was a great project to work on.

Okay, so I’ll admit that there were times when I thought I would never have it done.  But, what a sense of accomplishment when all eight were done.  However, I did then run into a problem when I accidentally gave one to someone I didn’t mean to, I guess, because I came out one short.  In a pinch then, I made a baby album for my sister-in-law and her husband, since they were getting ready to have their baby girl.

Hopefully this will help inspire you to start working on some Christmas handmades right now.  Of course, I do have to admit that although about half of my Christmas handmades for other people this year are already done, I actually bought them from someone else.

Do you have any plans for handmade holiday gifts this year?

Oh, so you made the pages and left them empty of pictures so the recipient could add their own pictures? That is a great idea!

One year, I made 6 scrapbooks of the first two years of my son’s life and gave them to all the assorted grandparents and aunties. It was a big hit. I was so busy making them for everyone else, that I still don’t have a scrapbook for us….I have a ton of stuff though. Does that count?

This year I am planning on hand-knitted gifts, but so far my efforts have been abysmal. I can’t believe the year is half over already! I haven’t even chosen patterns yet. Oy.

It is definitely time to start working on Christmas projects. I’m hoping to cross-stitch Christmas stockings for my boys this year.

That album is super cute!! I’ve done pre-made albums like this before to give as gifts, and I know what you mean. Projects that seem so clever at first turn into never-ending chores. But the final product can be so satisfying!

And I thought I was the only one who was already working on Christmas gifts in June! What a great idea to work on them for one day each month.
