7 Quick Takes: June 11, 2010 (Vol. 42)

This week, Eric and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. My parents were very generous and offered to watch the kids as Eric and I drove out of town to go to The Melting Pot for dinner.  I had been there once (with family on a girls weekend away), and Eric had never been there.  We had a fabulous time (and delicious food), and it was so nice to have a long, sit down meal together, since we virtually never go out without the kids.

I sat trying to write my 7 Quick Takes last night for about an hour and didn’t write out a single one. I have begun to think that it would really be helpful if I worked on them all week long, rather than trying to do it all in one night.  Because, quite frankly, when we have a busy week and then I can’t think of a thing to say about anything, I surely just have forgotten.

How do you write your 7 Quick Takes (if you do them)?  Do you do it all at once or work on it all week?

I have decreed that I need this next school year to be a lot less stressful. Last school year, our homeschool group went through a lot of stressful changes (and since I was one of the coordinators for the group, it caused me a crazy amount of stress), then I lost my paternal Grandmother, then we got a very upsetting medical diagnosis for one of the kids, and then my maternal Grandmother died.  It was almost as if as soon as things started settling from one thing, then another thing happened.

So, if this school year could be a little less stressful, I sure would appreciate it.

One of my sisters has opened her online craft shop on Etsy.  She has long since sold her amazing crafts at craft shows, so we’re excited to have her online.  Go check out All That Scrap on Etsy to see a variety of super cool things that Kristin has to offer.

I am still listening to Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog soundtrack quite often. (If you visit that link, you can listen to portions of each song.)  We listen to it often enough that when I downloaded a song on iTunes in which Neil Patrick Harris sings a duet, Eric was actually able to guess it was Neil Patrick Harris singing.

It may be a bit dark and twisty, but this is one of my favorite parts from the soundtrack (from a song called Slipping)

Go ahead, run away
Say it was horrible
Spread the word, tell a friend
Tell them the tale

Get a pic, do a blog
Heroes are over with.
Look at him – not a word.
Hammer meet nail.

Okay, so it misses something in context if you haven’t watched the 43 minute movie.  Of course, now I’m going to have that in my head all day.  It was like a plot by Bad Horse.

Apparently getting music stuck in your head is a family thing, as I can hear Molly humming the song of The Erie Canal Song (which is actually called Low Bridge).  That’s one of her favorites to get stuck in her head.

Do you often get songs stuck in your head?  If so, is it usually the same few or different ones?

I’ve always wanted to go to the Melting Pot – I’ve heard it’s delightful.

A stress-free school year sounds good as well. Sadly, it seems that most of your stress was hard life stuff that all the planning and organizing in the world wouldn’t have prevented. It was a hard year for you.

Lastly, I try to work on my week in review throughout the week – they are better and more detailed if I do that. I don’t always do that though. Add it to the extremely long list of things that I wish I always did.

Well, boy howdy! Thanks for posting about ME this week! It’s really because I have caused you added stress in helping me set up a banner and a blog?? LOL! I knew our entire family has been dealing with loads of things this year, but it can only get better. Besides, now we have two incredible women looking out after us!

Glad you and Eric had an awesome dinner at The Melting Pot! Yummy! I could eat there once a week, if I didnt think it would make my waistline increase 10 fold!

We actually have a REAL Dr. Horrible in the Saginaw area. Not sure what he practices, but WHY? I would have changed my name long ago.

And as for our singing family… guess what I have been stuck with all day??
1,2,3…..4,5,6….. 7,8,9…. 10,11,12….. 12 ladybugs at the ladybug picnic!

Hi Angie!

I don’t know where I’ve been but today was my first 7 Quick Takes. I can’t believe I’ve gone this far without it. I did mine quickly today. I seem to have all these things in my head but they never really seem like a whole post worthy. So this was perfect for me!

I hope your school year goes better next year. Do you go all year or take the summer off? I bet if you take summer off you’ll be glad for a break! :)

At this very moment I have a song from The Backyardigans stuck in my head. It’s never something hip and cool, it’s always some stupid kiddie show song. Embarrassing to be going down the grocery aisle and realize your are humming the theme from Caillou.

Now I’ve got the Erie Canal song going in my head, too!! Happy Anniversary! My hubbie and I had #18 on Sunday, but still haven’t celebrated officially because of a week-long migraine/bad headache. We haven’t been to the Melting Pot, though, so that gives me an idea! Praying you have a less stressful year next year.

Sometimes I start a draft and just add to it through the week, but usually I just write them up on Thursday night or Friday. I have a bookmark folder called “blogging ideas”, with links to interesting info and articles, and pull from that, because often my quick takes are links I want to share.

Found you via a link on Clever Mama’s blog. I can’t stop reading! Just wanted to tell you that I absolutely loved Dr. Horrible’s Singalong Blog. I’ve got the soundtrack on my mp3 player and I get excited whenever I have it on shuffle and it comes up. ;) It’s the little things…

I’m about to leave work and now all I can think about is dipping little bits of food into delicious cheese and chocolate. Unfortunately that is totally not happening for me tonight! Glad you enjoyed it!
