Walking for a Cure

in church/faith, family, illnesses/accidents

After over 1,000 posts on Many Little Blessings, it was apparently time for the very first guest post here.  I’m so happy to share this guest post today, and hope you might consider supporting my sister in her walk.

First let me say how honored I am that Angie asked me to be a guest on her blog this week.

I am so proud of Angie for the work she does with her community and her family, and of course with education through her blog and all aspects of her life. She is a true inspiration in my life, and I am not just saying that cause she is my little sister!

Angie asked me to talk a bit about an amazing adventure I am on this year, and I am thrilled to be able to share my enthusiasm with her readers. I am embarking on an amazing journey. In August, I will be one of thousands of women and men who will converge on Chicago for the Susan G. Komen Walk for a Cure.

It is a 3 Day event in which each of its participants will walk 60 miles (over the 3 day period) to help raise awareness for Breast Cancer. I decided to take this journey after being involved in fund raising with some of my online friends last year who walked in Philadelphia. The photos and stories they shared brought me to tears, and I knew God was calling me to take this challenge on for myself.

If you sit back and think about breast cancer, I know you will realize that every one has been affected by it in some way or another. This disease takes it’s toll not only on the women who are diagnosed, but also by those surrounding her. My grandmother is a 30+ year survivor herself, and I have had many a friend who has been affected by this disease. I have been a supporter of raising awareness for many years now, so it is a cause that is dear to my heart. Though I have no daughters, one day I will have daughters-in-law, and if God blesses me with granddaughters, I will be even more thrilled. I hope and pray that one day, through fund raising and raising awareness that those daughters-in-law and granddaughters will learn of breast cancer through nothing more than opening a History book and reading about it. Now that is something to be praise worthy about!

I am sharing my journey this year with a team of women whom I admire greatly. Our team is small, but we are determined to make a difference! Team Painted Lady is ready to hit Chicago and show our support to this cause! Because this is a fund raising event, it is required that each of us raise $2300 in order to even participate in the walk. We are swirling with fund raising ideas and we are on our way to making each of our goals. Each of us has set our personal goals even higher than the $2300 required because we know how important every single dollar is to this cause. I invite you to participate with us. If you would like to donate to team Painted Lady please to go www.The3Day.org and either search for our team name, or search us out individually. My twin sister, Erin Kischer, my girlfriend Kristina Murray along with myself, Kristin Cherwinski, will appreciate your tax deductible donations on our behalf.  (Note from Angie: You can click on “Team Painted Lady” to go directly to their team page.)

The greatest support you can give us however, will be through your prayers for us. So, in advance, I say THANK YOU!

Most Sincerely,

Kristin Chewinski

—————————————————————-

Thanks so much for sharing this, Kristin, and for your very kind words about me.

I hope that my readers can find it in their hearts to donate at least a small amount.  If each person who visited my blog this month would donate $.50, it would help them more than meet their goals.  Of course, everyone won’t.  But, if just a few of you would donate $5.00, it would make a huge difference.

Keep in mind — these ladies are going to be walking in Chicago in August.  Can you imagine how hot that is going to be.  I’m beside myself just thinking about it.

Thank you, readers, for the support and prayers for Kristin, Erin, and Kristina.

What a wonderful event! I did a March Of Dimes walk a few years back and it was awesome.

Good luck with your walk!

Thank you Angie for letting me guest spot on your blog!
I am excited, and getting nervous at the same time. I hope I can do everyone proud and finish the entire 60 miles. Since you pointed out Chicago in August…. eeek! LOL!
Jenny, my sister and I used to walk for March of Dimes each year in Madison WI. I believe it was an 18 mile walk, but always a great time, and worthy of our time and efforts.

I was happy to donate to Team Painted Lady! I participated in this walk last year in Philly, and I am crewing in DC this October. It is a life-changing event, for the walkers and those they serve with their fundraising. My prayers are with the team for their fundraising and walk!

Awesome. Be prepared to be overwhelmed. I am a breast cancer survivor of almost 5yrs. My family and I do the Race for the Cure in Columbus Ohio. I don’t let my kids go yet…it’s still emotional for me-watching the teams who walk in memory of their moms, wives, friends still make me cry. It always looks like a sea of pink-which is what the survivors wear- it is insane to see how many people are affected by this disease.
1 in 8 women will be diagnosed. my quote is always look around our group ( usually 8 women) and I say lucky you!! I took the bullet for ya’ll!!!
