Holy Thursday Dinner and Family Foot Washing

in church/faith, family

We often go to a dinner at church and then Mass for Holy Thursday (the day in which Jesus began the sacrament of the Eucharist, as well as the day that he washed his disciples’ feet).  This year, however, we find ourselves having been out of the house every night for a week (especially after I went out of state with the kids earlier this week).  We’re exhausted and haven’t spent much family time together at all.

We have decided that tonight, we will have dinner at home.  We’ll read about the last supper and the events surrounding it.  And then, we’ll do the family foot washing that we have done in the past.

I have to admit – I look forward to the family foot washing as soon as Holy Week rolls around.  It is such a beautiful reminder of not only what Jesus did for His followers, but a reminder that we each need to serve one another as part of this family.

Do you have special traditions for any of the days of Holy Week?
