7 Quick Takes: April 16, 2010 (Vol. 37)

I have been working on an e-book.  I have this feeling that it will never be finished.  I thought I would be able to just whip right through it.  I have now realized that I’m clearly insane.  I think that if I can sit down and write a couple of sections each day, then I can be done in a couple of weeks though.

Have you ever written an e-book or a published book?

I have booked my first flight in more than 11 years.  I’m pretty nervous about it.  It makes me even more nervous that I have noticed that I have just 35 minutes for a connecting flight (in Chicago’s Midway airport).  I’m praying that this is doable.  I’m not sure if I should try to call the airline and get on a slightly later flight (at the connection point) or if I should just go with it and hope for the best.

I got some mixed reviews on this from my Facebook friends, so I think I’m just going to hope for the best.  (And, I’m going to try to take everything I need as carry on.)

Out of the five weekdays of this week, we have only managed to do school on three of them.  Mind you, we only counted two days of school then, but I still feel bad.  We have just about 23 days of school left for the year, and I think we’re getting a little antsy.  Of course, I think that seasonal allergies are also kicking our hineys.  (More than 1,000 posts on this blog, and I can’t think that I have ever said hiney before.)

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again — I think I desperately need some kind of schedule in my life.  I find it so easy to sit to look something up on the computer, for instance, and find that an hour has passed because I went from one link to another.  I just hate that.

Do you have any really wonderful way to combat that? (Short of not getting on the computer at all.)

Heather from Home Ec 101 recently mentioned a blog that she is following – New Dress a Day.  This is such a fun blog!  I checked it out, and then I couldn’t quit looking at it.  This blogger is going to try to wear something new each day in 2010 and only spend $365.

It’s super fun and creative — go check it out!

I feel like I have been seriously lacking some creative time lately.  I think that I keep putting things off because I can’t spend hours at a time on a project.  I believe that what I need to do is embrace the idea of doing portions of a project each day. Maybe a mixed media painting can’t be done in a day (with the time I have available), but perhaps I can do one layer of it.

I guess my problem is that I tend to be pretty “all or nothing” sometimes.  Wish me luck to start being a little more creative soon.

It was like a won the lottery today — I was so excited!  A purse that I haven’t used lately fell off the laundry room shelf, and so I thought, “Hey – I haven’t used this in about two months, I wonder what I left in there.”  That’s always a fun way to find a favorite pen or something like that.  Imagine my shock (as a gal that just doesn’t normally carry any cash) to find that I had an envelope with $35 in cash in it!

We had been trying to use cash for groceries and dining out, and that was some money for dining out that I somehow misplaced.  I thought we had just used all of the money when I didn’t find it, but apparently it was in that purse.  What a fabulous surprise!

(This is officially the post that took me the longest to write.  I worked on it last night and then had to work on it again tonight.  What in the world?  That’s just proof that I need to get my life in order!)

I find using a timer helps me balance my day.

If you find a planner system that completely revolutionizes your life, be sure to post about it! I think it’s normal to feel scattered sometimes – particularly this time of the year. I know I’m winding down with school AND thinking ahead to next school year AND planning projects for this summer for me to do. It’s sort of an in-between time. In-between times often causes one to feel a bit scattered, I think!

Congrats on booking the flight, I’d be apt to just hope it works out too, but I don’t fly too often so don’t take my word as law :)

I’m an all or nothing person too, I really have to fight that to get anything done. I call myself a “perfectionist to a fault” because if I can’t do something as well and thoroughly as I would like (laundry for instance) I won’t even start it. Not good.
