Encouraging More Facebook Fans

in blogging

It seems like so many businesses and blogs are making sure that they have a Facebook presence.  The best way to do that is to set up a Facebook fan page (not to be confused with your personal page).

So, let’s just say that you already have your Facebook fan page set up (and maybe you do).  I set mine up for this blog a few weeks ago.  I got man fans from within my Facebook friend pool, but only a few other people were becoming fans, even after I mentioned it in a blog post.  (That was mainly when I added a few more from my readers.)

This afternoon, I was on The Homeschool Classroom and thought, “Hey — I have a lot more fans for my Homeschool Classroom page than my Many Little Blessings FB page.  I wonder if it’s partially because I have a fan box on HSC and not on Many Little Blessings.”

I tested the theory and added a Facebook fan box to the sidebar here at Many Little Blessings.

In about three weeks (or so), I had 51 fans.  (I know, it’s not a huge number at all.)  Twelve hours after adding a fan box to my sidebar here (but not mentioning it otherwise), I am at 73 fans.  Not bad growth, huh?

So, here’s the take away message: If you have a Facebook fan page for your blog, and if you have some free sidebar space, add in a Facebook fan box!

Other Information

How do I set up a Facebook fan page?

While I’m sure there is more than one way, one easy way is to go to your personal account’s “home” page (where you see your friends’ updates).  On the left side, click on “ads and pages.”  You will then be taken to a page that has an option to “Create Page.”  The directions from there are pretty self explanatory.

How do I get a Facebook fan box?

Once you have created your fan page, click on “edit page” from the left side of the page.

This will bring you to a page with a lot going on.  Just look on the right side, just above where it shows who the admins are.  There is a link that says, “Promote with a Fan Box.”  Just follow the directions from there.

I posted my Fan Page button on my blog last week. Slowly, but surely my fan # is growing. It does work. :-)

I have thought about a FB fan page, but have not decided if it was beneficial. I do have my networked blogs follow widget on my sidebar. I am wondering if that is similar enough? Hmm… so many ways to network. Thanks for the tip though. I will think more about it.

Blessings!

You're right, isn't it funny how it works that way? Of course I have mine in my side bar and it's never changed….I think the credit here goes to the fact that your blog is totally awesome and it extends to your facebook :)

I'm so glad you explained how to set up a fan page. I tried the other day and could not figure it out! LOL!

I did this today. I'm not totally sure I did it right, and I definitely need to get my blog redesigned to make the promotion badge fit better. Is there some way to tie new posts to the page to automatically update?

Angie,

I added the fan box but it is cut off…did you have to reformat your's? BTW, thanks for the info. I looked at it before and thought you had to create an ad to get the fan box!

You can go into the html and change the width of the fan box. I changed it from 300 wide to 200 for using it here on Many Little Blessings.
