A couple of weeks ago, I started setting things up with a piano teacher for Noah. One of her requirements of us was that we needed to have a piano in our home. While there apparently is a local place that we could rent it from for about $30/month, I still hated the thought of having to sink that much money into a rental for so long.
So, I got the idea to email out to everyone we know (locally) to see if someone might have a piano that they wanted to get rid of. I also post a message on Facebook and Freecycle. I figured it was worth the few minutes, and you just never know what might happen.
After that though, I got pretty stressed out about the whole thing (and realized that part of it just had to do with the actual conversation with the piano teacher that we had chosen, so we actually ended up switching teachers).
I got so worked up and finally prayed aloud, “You know, God, I am just getting too stressed about this. I have to give this to You now. If we’re meant to find a free piano, I know You’ll make it happen.”
Well, in what I surely think was God’s way of telling me to let go of the notion that I’m in control a little more often, it wasn’t more than five minutes later that I sat down to the computer and got an email from someone on Freecycle that she had a piano that we could have (for free).
It is in need of some serious painting (as it appears to have been painted a few times with some large areas not painted as often as others — that’s my nice way of saying it is blue in some areas and black in others — with a coat of yellow under all of that!), but it sounds good and the kids love it already! Eric, my Dad, and my brother all helped move it in (as well as a neighbor, once they got it here).
During the pick up of the piano, the woman (who we thought was just some random stranger) finally realized why she recognized Eric — she knew our kids from their old school (with Noah being a particular favorite of hers), and so she was thrilled to find out it was for him!
It looks like we have some serious work ahead of us with stripping paint and then repainting, which we have already started on. But, we’re very excited for the newest addition to our home!
