Great E-book to Learn about States and Abbreviations (Plus a Giveaway!)

in books, homeschooling, learning ideas/activities

Joy from Five J’s recently contacted me about her new e-book Learn the States and Postal Abbreviations. I was thrilled when she offered me a copy to review!

This book is full of great activities for learning both the states, and then their postal abbreviations. There are flash cards, maps, worksheets, charts, and more!

I hadn’t thought about how important postal abbreviations are until I was reading through the book and read the reasons that Joy gave. I guess you’ll have to get her book, if you can only come up with writing it on an envelope. (That was really my only inital thought. But, then again, maybe I just wasn’t thinking too hard.)

I think that one of my favorite things in the book was a chart that shows the state’s names and how their abbreviations are made. (For example, there is a whole list of states that use the first letter and last letter. Again, I guess it was just something I never thought of. Honestly, I can tell you that Maine’s abbreviation is ME, but I never thought about why, or about the fact that many other state’s also have the first and last letter.) It was just a really nice visual — perfect for my visual learners!

Now, I don’t want you to think it’s all about abbreviations though. There are sections on learning the states and where they are located as well. I just may have to test myself!

I really enjoyed that there was a nice variety of types of worksheets and activities in this e-book. And, one of the best things is that this e-book is only $5.95! But, even better? Until June 19, 2009, my readers can use the code MANYBLESSINGS to buy the e-book for only $2.95. (Seriously!)

Plus, I’m even able to give away one copy to a reader! Cool beans!

Here’s how to win:

Leave a comment and tell me which state you would like to go to that you have never been to before. (I guess if you’ve been to all 50 states, then pick which one you would most like to return to.)

Make sure to leave your comment by Friday, June 12th at 11:59 pm EST. I’ll pick a winner on Saturday!

Winner: April from Homeschool Musings
