7 Quick Takes – May 29th Edition (Vol. 5)

My preschool co-op class will be performing at our end of the year social to the song “Octopus” by Charlotte Diamond. We have listened to it during almost every one of our classes this year.

Even though I’m a stickler for correct song titles, I have always called the song the wrong name. When I taught kindergarten, we always listened to it and called it the wrong name, and I continue to do it now.

Apparently I am quite sure that “Slippery Fish” is a much better name for it. So, that’s what all of the students call it too.

If you have kids and haven’t checked out this CD, you should definitely do it.

Molly (age 4 1/2) is unhappy that I picked “Slippery Fish” “Octopus” for our performance. She has told me several times that she wishes I would have picked the Popcorn song from the Barenaked Ladies kids’ CD.
Now that I think about it, watching a bunch of preschoolers jump around until they are exhausted is pretty entertaining.

Ever since my trip in March to a large homeschooling conference, I have been really enjoying my “Things to Do” notepads that I bought from Miller Pads and Paper. They had the most fun papers, art supplies, and other things for schooling.

I couldn’t find my “Things to Do” paper pads on their website, so I may have to email them if I run out before I see them at a conference again. One thing I may have to order before that though is their pads of paper with maps. How cool is that? A whole pad of paper of world maps or of U.S. maps? Love it!

After over two weeks of coughing, we finally realized that Jack just wasn’t getting better. I was shocked when I called the doctor’s office at 8:40 this morning and was offered my choice of 9:00, 9:30, or 10:00 am. I even had to say, “Today?”

We left with some sweet smelling pink bubble gum refrigerated goodness that will hopefully clear up what is likely now a sinus infection. We also left with me having a strong urge to use my inhaler after listening to Jack having to do deep breaths for the doctor to listen to. Ouch!

All of my pea and green bean plants are gone in my garden. Just tiny little sticks where they used to be. Likewise, my lettuce was getting chewed up, and my new raspberry bush no longer has leaves.

As Junie B. Jones would say — Dumb Bunnies.

After several months of bringing it up, Eric finally joined Facebook tonight. Our favorite moment of the whole experience of him registering? It was when I received an email that read:

Eric said on Facebook that you two are married. We need you to confirm that you are, in fact, married to Eric.

For whatever reason, we both found that wildly amusing.

I have a plan to continue working on math throughout the summer. Apparently just not during our first week off.

Nobody has complained about the lack of math or about the abundance of video game and computer time. Not even me.
