I have really been wanting to learn how to knit. Eric and the kids were nice enough to let me pick out a few things from Amazon.com for my birthday in December, and one thing I got was The Complete Beginner’s Guide to Knitting that people were just raving about. (That’s also when I got the fabulous Stitch-It Kit
that helped me learn to embroider for the first time.)
Anyway, I have to admit — I haven’t opened the DVD yet. But, after months of having a set of Knifty Knitter looms, I finally just broke down and opened the package on Monday evening of this week. Molly was thrilled, since she has been asking me to make her a hat ever since I bought the loom set.
Having never done any knitting (or a loom or otherwise), I was thrilled to put in only a couple of hours, and to end up with a cutie hat that
Molly was thrilled with. I also realized that this would be a great activity for older kids, who could easily master the basic loom use after being shown how to do it.
I still definitely want to learn to knit with needles at some point (maybe during the summer when we have more free time), but for now, I’m thrilled to be able to do some loom knitting until then. I have to admit, the whole time I was making the hat, I kept smiling as I watched the hat grow.
I am always thankful when I get to tackle a project that I have been wanting to do for a while, especially when it is something fun!
I’m also thankful that I have a husband who will help me figure out written directions (I’m such a visual learner!), and thankful also for that little girl with a goofy preschool forced grin, because she was so pleased with my homemade hat.
