I tend to pray a lot. Most of my prayers, however, are not done at my bedside on my knees, but rather, just throughout the day. I have this running conversation with God.
Because of this running conversation, I tend to have a lot of my prayers be either just talking to God or thanking him for the little things. For example, every time I am running late somewhere (which seems to happen way more often than I would like it to), I say a special thank you every time I hit a green light, instead of red.
But, of course, we have difficult times, just like everyone else. And, I definitely try to go to God during those times. It’s during those times, though, that I try to look toward the blessings in those difficulties.
For example, when money is tight, I thank God for the fact that, even though the bills piled up, it is because we have a home, which is more than many people have.
When the kids have made me crazy for the millionth time in a given day, I pray that God gives me strength to be a good mother, but also thank Him that me needing to have that prayer means that we were able to have children, despite infertility.
While God gives me strength when I pray for it, I also know that by counting my blessings during the difficult times, it makes my heart feel a little lighter when it is heavy with worry or sadness.
