Weekly Wrap Up for November 29th

in church/faith,family,gifts,holidays/birthdays,wrap ups

It’s been a busy week around here, which is why I have been much more absent from Many Little Blessings lately. I have also been seriously thinking that I need to start scheduling my time better. And, by that, I actually mean making a schedule for some of those things that I should be doing weekly. We’ll see if I ever get around to that!

Here’s what has happened around here this week:

  • I spent most of last weekend, plus one whole day this week, baking. As I have already mentioned, I made my way through six pounds of butter, 7 lbs of flour, 19 eggs, etc. Some things went into the freezer, and I will keep grabbing from the freezer bags as I put together Christmas baskets and platters. Some things I will remake every time I put together new baskets/platters. (We broke up our platter/basket giving into three dates, with the first one being Thanksgiving.)
  • As we got ready to go out of state to my grandparents house (on Wednesday), we got a call that my Grandma had been rushed to the hospital with flu-like symptoms. A lot of discussion ensued whether to go or not. In the end, my Grandpa (“Papa”) said that he wanted everyone to come. One of my sisters did a great job pulling off a good portion of the meal, with various family members bringing in other portions.
  • We learned, before going to visit my Grandma in the hospital, that, as doctors had already wondered after she was admitted, she has cancer. When we were visiting with her in the hospital, she told us that they also told her that she had had a heart attack. Even though we had already been told before going that it was cancer, we all cried when she broke down crying as she told us it was cancer. (If you can please pray for my Grandma, her name is Shirlee, I would appreciate it.)
  • I was able to spend time with family all day on Thanksgiving, and that was really nice. We had some nice gifts exchanged (we celebrated Christmas while we were there). I was thrilled that two of my sisters liked the art canvases that I made for them. (I’ll post pictures later.) I made each of those with a lot of thought toward each of them, so it made it special for them to enjoy them.
  • I was the one who received the much sought after “Mystery Gift.” This is a family tradition of ours, and it has been years since I got it. I got a really sweet frame from my sister, who received it last year. I’ll post more on this tradition another time too. Needless to say though, I was pretty psyched.
  • We drove for a total of 13 – 14 hours for our Thanksgiving travels, so we were glad to be home. Not only is the driving tiring (with three kids), I have to admit that every holiday when I see my Grandparents for the past few years now, I wonder, “Is this the last time I might see one of them?” That makes the trip tiring in a whole different way.
