When I watch the news, it is usually our local news. This is not, however, because it is a stellar news cast.
As a matter of fact, sometimes it is almost painful to watch them stumble over foreign names, occassionally look like deer in headlights, and sometimes looking in the wrong camera for longer than one would think they should when they are doing it on accident. Oh, and then there are times when they cover a local dog event for five full minutes, and the world news for just moments.
But, on the up side, I enjoy that it isn’t like watching the big city news. While crimes certainly happen here, it just isn’t as depressing to watch.
And, occassionally, I get to leave after watching it with a little nugget to cherish. A gem that makes me smile every time I think of it.
Tonight was one of those times.
The news anchor said (previewing the weather report to come), “We haven’t seen any snow yet, but we can expect to see some this winter.”
Really? Is this a news worthy statement? Might your next prediction be that the sun will probably rise sometime tomorrow?
Seriously — it’s not like we’re living in Texas or Florida or somewhere else that we rarely see snow. We live in the Midwest, and I can’t say that I’ve ever had a winter that didn’t involve some snow.
So, thank you local news — you have again shared with me a gem to make me smile. And thanks for the warning on the weather. I might never have expected snow this winter if I hadn’t been watching tonight. Thanks for the heads up.
