I was visiting a family last week, and they had a three year old cousin visiting.
I talked to the little girl as she was riding on a rocking horse. I said something about “she” or “her” — I can’t recall which I said now — in reference to the horse.
“No, it’s a boy,” little Susie assured me.
“Oh, okay!” I said.
“He’s a boy horse because he’s mean and he’ll bite you.”
So, forget what you’ve heard about checking gender, and take it from little Susie. If it bites and it’s mean, it’s a boy.
