Works for Me Wednesday: Fisher Price-a-palooza

in family, motherhood, toys/games, unplugged play

We don’t have a playroom in our house. Our playroom is the room we also like to more commonly call “the living room.” This means that at various times of the day, we clean everything up before people drag stuff into the living room again. Otherwise though, the toys all live in kids’ bedrooms.
Every so often, I like to have what I think of as a Fisher Price-a-palooza. We have spent lots of money (or other people have through gifts) on all kinds of Fisher Price playsets and people. So, sometimes I pull out our couple of buckets of FP people, vehicles, etc and plop them down right in the middle of the living room. And, then I line the living room with different playsets (the house, the farm, the zoo, the old 1974 castle, the big Discovery City with the roadway that moves in a circle, and so on), and I just don’t worry about how it looks in the living room for the day.
Something about having it all out just inspires all the kids to get down and do a lot of pretend play. And, sure — some of the kids play with it longer than others. The almost eight year old plays for only a short time, while the two year old is at it much longer. But, still — everyone has fun and it makes for a different and interesting day. And, really — this tip could carry over to just about any kinds of themed playsets.
