WFMW: The "Mom — I’m Bored!" Edition

in children, learning ideas/activities

This week is a themed Works for Me Wednesday at Rocks in My Dryer. This theme is for things to do when the kids declare they are bored during the summer.

My idea is one that *does* involve a parent, but it is fun for me (usually). When my kids start to get irritable and glassy-eyed from too many computer and video games. I grab a glass of water (for when I start needing it), grab a fun and easy chapter book (or sometimes just a stack of picture books — like Click, Clack, Moo: Cows that Type), and I sit down and start reading aloud. (My kids love when I grab a Captain Underpants book or a Ricky Ricotta book.)

Sometimes, I say, “Okay, everyone stop what you’re doing and come over here.” And, other times, I just start reading aloud. Either way, everyone tends to end up around me, and we all have a nice, relaxing time.
