I have been on a mission to find a Ninetendo Wii for a few months now. I walk through Electronics Departments in various stores, just in case. But, usually I just find a blank spot in some locked case.
Well…Molly and I were on a trip to Walmart yesterday for diapers and paper towel. We had a few minutes, and I decided to walk through the Electronics Department, only to soon say, “Dang it!” as I walked by the employees unpacking some Nintendo cardboard boxes. Yes — I finally was about to luck into a Wii, and I was not happy to be spending the money. But, I sucked it up, knowing I really wanted to get it for the kids (after hearing all the amazing reviews), and bought it. (Of course, they told me which accessories I just “had to have” if it was to be played by two people, and so those made it onto my bill too.)
My kids were SO pysched when I told them when they got home from school! I told them how expensive it was, even though they don’t really “get” money. Jack said, “Did you spend ALL our dollars on the Wii?” Yes…sadly…I did.
I told the kids they would have to wait for Daddy to get home from work to set it up for them, because I never can figure those kinds of things out. (Yeah, yeah, I know — I can earn two degrees, but I can’t set up a piece of electronics.)
Anyway, so then we waited and waited for Daddy to arrive home — even with a gentle call from Noah on his cell phone to tell him to come home right away.
So, as Noah sat, pondering, he said, “It’s a good thing we have a Dad…” (pause) “who knows how to read.”
“Hey!” I argued. “Noah — do you think Mommy knows how to read too?”
“Oh…I’m sorry, Mommy.” He paused again. “It’s a good thing we have a Daddy who knows how to follow directions.”
I told him that I actually *did* know how to follow directions, but that Daddy is just much better at setting up those kinds of things. So, maybe it’s true — maybe those kids sure ARE lucky to have a Dad that can follow directions!

That is so funny. My kids would be so jealous of your kids.
In our house, I can read the directions I just don’t understand them. Mu husband doesn’t read the directions. He can figure things our better by just looking at the pieces. I don’t get it. I don’t have a brain like that. smile

Yeah, see, Rosemary — that’s how I am. I just don’t “get” those directions when I read them. It’s like I just can’t figure it out, and I don’t know why that is.

That is so funny! I’m glad you were finally able to get one! Thankfully, Ian is blissfully unaware of what a Wii is, so he continues to be happy with his gamecube (though I admit after reading the reviews, I think I would actually play the Wii too).
