Making me look like an idiot

in church/faith, family, motherhood

That is what kids are for, correct? Well — Molly (age 2) was doing her best of it yesterday.

We went to Mass last night, and Molly was turned around in the pew, since I was holding her. It was right before the Mass, and she looked at me like I was insane, as she looked up toward the loft area, as loudly as possible (it seemed) she announced, “THAT NOT MARY! THAT SAINT LAWRENCE!”

I knew she was referring to a statue of St. Lawrence that she saw. Of course, she did have to announce it in a way such that it sounded like I told her it was Mary. So, I tried to quiet her down and said, in almost a whisper as I pointed up to St. Lawrence, “Yes, — that’s St. Lawrence.”

She again looks at me with mock horror, while declaring, “THAT NOT MARY! THAT SAINT LAWRENCE!”

So…if you ever hear a story about the new Catholic that doesn’t know Our Lady from St. Lawrence, you can just know that sometimes, it’s an offspring’s job to make their parents look like idiots.

LOL. That is so funny. She probably is trying out that pattern of sentence. “That’s not___. That’s____!” I’ve heard my girls when they were real little say things like that. Once my daughter stopped in front of a display of spaghetti sauce in a store and exclaimed, “Oh, I LOVE this stuff!” I looked at her in surprise and said, “You do?” She answered, “No, not really.” I think little girls like to try out the nuances of language. Too funny.

I’m laughing, too!
Our kids must’ve teamed up. Although mine wasn’t even referring to anything religious. I just posted about the way he snorted during Mass. SNORTING. I had my daily dose of humilty for sure!

Kids definitely know how to say the wrong things at the right moment! It is a talent.

ROFL!!! You just never know what little ones are going to say–or where they’ll say it. But you can bet they’ll say it LOUDLY.
I wish I had my blog when all my kids were younger, because just writing things like this down helps me see the humor in them!
