Just a little break…

in illnesses/accidents

I actually visited the doctor today (an Urgent Care center) for a problem that I professed to have had for, oh, I don’t know — maybe the last 25 years. Yes, it’s true. And, can you believe that when I worked there, I would sometimes be less than patient when people said they’d had the same problem for weeks or months (but that was usually only when they would come strolling in five minutes before we were to close).

For most of my life, I have had a stabbing pain in my ear. It usually lasts less than 30 seconds, but also stops me dead in my tracks, and sometimes even causes tears. It really only happens once every couple of months (or not usually more than a month). So, it is bearable, and I have never really thought to mention it to a doctor. But, this morning when it started and didn’t stop, I tried to crack my neck to relieve the pain, as sometimes helps. Well — go figure — I ended up pinching or pulling something in my neck, and the pain still didn’t go away.

So, Eric took Jack to an appointment he had, and also took him to school. (I’m so blessed to have such a wonderful husband!). And, Molly and I headed to the doctor. The doctor ended up saying that this was definitely not an acute problem (the ear). He said I had chronic serous otitis media. He said there is fluid in my right ear (and a bit in my left) that has possibly been there for YEARS! I wonder why nobody has mentioned it at any point, but then I thought, well…I guess if I never mentioned it as a problem, nobody probably was ever bothered by it.

I also had the “pleasure” of having a C-spine panel (?), which consisted of probably almost 10 X-rays. Whew! He said it was to rule out any injury to my neck, especially since this has happened before.

So, now I’m on Prednisone and antibiotics (icky ones!), and he is hopeful that this should get rid of the fluid.

So, since it is my “computer arm” (as I like to call the right side — LOL) that is on the sore side, I may be away from my blog (and commenting on other blogs) for a couple of days. And, yeah know, maybe not. But, in case you don’t see my around, just know that I am fine, just trying to get better.
