Catholic Moms/Catholic Women Blog Ring?

in church/faith

I have been on the search for a Catholic Women or Catholic Moms blogring, and I can’t seem to find one. I have done numerous searches. So, unless my search has failed me, I haven’t really found exactly what I am looking for. (This thought has been hammering at my brain ever since I saw a Christian blogring that I thought, “Oh, maybe I’ll join that,” only to find when I read through the requirements that one of the requirements was distinctly Protestant. And, while I have no problem with that, it was also very not Catholic. LOL)

So…here is the official announcement, I have a few reports to write, but when I am done, I believe that I will be starting a blog ring for…well…I can’t decide if it should be Catholic Moms, or just Catholic women in general. Feel free to share your thoughts on that before I decide for sure!

If you are interested in joining it when it gets started, please leave me a comment here, and I will be sure to contact you when I get the details worked out and everything set up.

I would love to join when you get started. I’d suggest Catholic women. That way “A Catholic Wife’s Trying to Conceive” blog could be included even now. (http://thoughts-prayers-reflections.blogspot.com/index.html

Oh, Rosemary — God Bless You!!! You’d think as someone who suffered with infertility that I would have had that thought, but it just didn’t cross my mind. That cinches it — Catholic women it is! :)

Just a question…why does it have to be limited to Catholics? You said the fact that there is one that was strictly Protestant turned you off… why then go and do the opposite? I hate the divisions that exist between denominations and such… aren’t we all Christians and share the same goal of one day being re-united with our Father in heaven?

I think it sounds like a great idea & I’d love to join. I’ve looked for the same thing and never found it. Surprising isn’t it?

Jen –

I wanted to answer to your quandry, and I’ll be sure to drop you a message to make sure you see it. ;) It didn’t turn me off at all that the other list was strictly Protestant — I was just saying that I realized that it was not something I could join (per their rules, not mine), and that made me realize that there were other blog rolls that were also similarly set up. It doesn’t bother me anymore than a knitting blog roll that I couldn’t join because (1) I don’t knit (LOL) and (2) I’m not in New England or wherever it was that you were required to live in. Not every group is open to everyone, particularly with blog rolls, I think the idea is that then you can see a list of blogs that are for whatever that particular interest/hobby/faith/whatever is. Know what I mean?

So, to start a list like this (which I feel like I am being called to do), isn’t to exclude Protestants, but is to make Catholic female bloggers have a list that they *can* join. But, since there are already a whole lots of Christian blog rolls (that focus on the Protestant tradition), it would seem redundant to make another, just so that both Catholics and Protestants can be members of it together.

I hope my thoughts on this and reasoning for it make sense. I think the reason that I feel called to make the blog for Catholic women is also because when we were first on our journey to Catholicism, I kept trying to seek out other Catholic women and mothers online, and had mixed results. Then, when I got into the world of blogging, I finally found all kinds of Catholic women, and it felt like a blessing. And, so I wanted to make it easier on someone else who possibly stops by one of the blogs on the blog roll to be able to say, “Hey — here is a whole list of other Catholic women!”

Sorry to get long winded, but I didn’t want you to misinterpret my reasoning or actions. It is not to create a division, because…heck…I *am* technically still Protestant (until Saturday — LOL), and I have been my whole life. My entire family that pratices a faith are Protestant. I have no problem at all with a blog roll that would be for ALL Christians, not just Protestants or just Catholics, but, since there are several already out there for Protestants (and I suspect some that already may be inclusive, but I just didn’t come across them), I thought it would be nice to have something for Catholics. :)

Oops — guess I won’t message you, Jen, since it was not the Jen I thought it was (and I’m not able to view your profile). But, I am glad that I wrote it all out, just the same. :) Hope you can appreciate my reasoning, even if you might not agree with it.

Angie, if you want the focus to kind of be on the topic of mothering (without excluding anybody) you could add something like including: would-bes, will-bes, godmothers, and mothers-at-heart, or something like that. There are a lot of mothers at heart out there. (like all women?)

Hey there Angie… That was me- jen… pokeygirl5 Jen ;) not sure why you can’t read my profile? hmm…
I understand your reasoning a bit more now- thank you for explaining.

I just find some things frustrating… I live in a VERY Catholic town and it always seems as though there is SO much division. Some even go as far to say either you are Catholic or Christian- um… those are the same. ;) I guess I am more from the point- why don’t we focus on the things that we have in common moreso than the things where we differ- I think we see eye-to-eye moreso than people think. Kwim?

BUT- I see that wasn’t where you were going with the blogroll and I understand and support that :)

Jen — thanks so much for coming back and posting again! I kind of figured it was a Jen I knew, but thought it was someone else. LOL Glad to find out who it was.

Also — I am very glad that my response was more clear in where I was coming from on this issue. Thanks for having an open mind to read what I had to say about it.

That’s really too bad about the big division in your area! :( That is crazy about the separation of “Catholics and Christians.” I have, however, heard the term used “Catholic Christian.” And, I can understand that, as I think a lot of people automatically think of a protestant denomination when they just hear “Christian.” Actually — as for myself, when people just say, “I’m a Christian,” I typically assume that means they are of a non-denominational type of church. But, I think I digress, now that it is getting late. LOL

I totally agree with you though — I think that as a whole, a lot of Christian denominations are more similar than they think they are. Like when my parents went to the Easter Vigil Mass with us the other night, I don’t know if either of them had ever attended a Mass before (other than a wedding), and they were able to go right along with many prayers and songs. And, when I have been in Lutheran, Methodist, & Presbyterian churches in the past, I found so many similarities with my Episcopalian faith (at that time). And, then when we decided to journey to Catholicism, we (as Episcopalians at that time) found far more similarities than we found differences (as far as Mass/services go, for sure).

Again — thanks for coming back and posting! I don’t know why I couldn’t see your profile, but glad to know who it was now.

And — how about we’ll both pray for more unity in all faiths — what a wonderful thing that would be! :)
